Okay, I got tired of missing shows because I didn't hear about them until it was already too late. So I sat down with my laptop and a calendar, and visited all the web sites of my favorite local clubs and bands, and charted out the upcoming month, music-wise. So now, if I miss a show, it won't be out of sheer ignorance. Rather, it can be for a more legitimate reason, like the fact that I'm gettin' so goddamn old that even though I might want to go to a show, I'm usually already yawning and cranky at 10:00 PM. Anyway, I thought maybe you, my friends, might like the information I gathered, so here it is -- the list of shows each month that seem at least vaguely interesting, whether it's because I know and like the band, I read a good review about them in the Guardian, or I once saw a picture of the lead singer and boy was she cute. In other words, I don't promise that these are all great shows. Just that if the music sucks, at least the lead singer is probably going to be easy on the eyes. If you all know of anything else that's happening music-wise, lemme know. I'll mail out an update. Who knows, maybe I'll even do this every month, ultimately putting a calendar on the web, and it'll be one of those things where I start doing something just for my own reasons, but then it catches on all across the Internet and becomes this huge thing that makes me a gazillionaire...like what happened with those Yahoo! guys. But probably not. Also, if you actually want to go to any of the shows with me, call me up. As long as I'm not yawning and cranky, I'm always up for a beer and some rock-n-roll. -David |

Alright, I threatened to do this, and I wasn't kidding. There's now an online graphical/clickable type calendar of the local music shows around town that I think could maybe be worth seeing, or at least investigating a little further. The URL is: http://www.strangebed.com/sf_local_music/ Clicking on a link will give a little bit of additional info about each event, this being primarily which venue it's at, but it might in rare instances also include other stuff, like cover charge, or a brief description, or whatnot. Basically though, if the band interests you, go get the details yourself. I do have a full-time job, after all. Finally -- if anyone wants to help me maintain this calendar for all of us to enjoy, please let me know. Response was overwhelmingly positive to my list of June shows, so there's got to be at least some of you who will be willing to lend a hand. It's easy to do -- I give you a username and a password, and bingo, you can post and edit events on the calendar just like me. I'm warning you though -- do not use your newfound power for evil, 'cuz I can and will whup yer ass. Finally finally -- when I get around to it, I'll post a link on the calendar that will allow folks to subscribe or unsubscribe from this mailing list at will. In the meantime, let me know now if you want off. Or, conversely, if you want me to add any of your friends (with their permission, of course.) There's always more room in the clubhouse. Okay -- I'll be sending another e-mail soon when July is done, and when I get that subscribe/unsubscribe link up. In the meantime, go support live music, k? -David |
